La Jolla Cove, California
Old Town

When you get to Twiggs Street turn left and there is a nice shopping area on your right located in the San Diego Old Town Market located in the historic 1853 Casa de Aguirre.

After you buy every trinket known to man, continue down Twiggs Street until you see San Diego Avenue. Make a left and you will see O'Hungry's. This is a great Restaurant/Pub for drinking beer and having a hamburger or Hot Dog. The beer can be ordered in a Yard long glass tube supported by a sturdy wood stand. If you break this tall glass, you must buy it! Drink cautiously!

If you continue down San Diego Avenue you might see a few performers. One particular performer of note is "Chicago Pete". Make sure you say hi to him and check out his CD's.
He is even gracious enough to let you take pics with him.

There is Restaurant on San Diego Avenue called "Zocalo Grill ". I highly recommend stopping here for their champagne brunch. Your best bet is the "ranchhouse huevos" or "bistro steak & eggs" is delicious.

Our visit to San Diego Avenue is not complete unless you visit the Hauntingly famous Whaley House. The Whaley House is considered by some to be one of the most Haunted Places in America. On My first trip to the Whaley House, the Alarm sounded and they couldn't turn it off. We finally had to vacate the house. Some people say they see figures in the windows after the Museum Tours have closed. This is a highly recommended stop for curiosity and historical significance.

Another haunting, fascinating place is El Campo Santo Cemetery. Established in 1849, many historical founders of San Diego are buried here. One was Yankee Jim of course, hung at the site of the Whaley House. The first Mayor of San Diego (Alcalde) Juan Maria Osuna is here. The most interesting fact about this site is many of the graves are underneath the sidewalk on both sides of the cemetary. Only recently discovered with ground penetrating radar in 1993, 20 sites are found underneath San Diego Avenue and 13 found underneath Linwood Street.

If you happen to step on one of these markers on the side walk, you might want to 'move aside'.

One of the funnest experiences is visiting "The Cowboys". "The Cowboys" are across the street from El Campo on San Diego Avenue. Be a part of this Interactive sculpture by running through the "Gunfight" which is strictly water "bullets". Every 15 mins the water starts to turn on and you can get pretty soaked!! Recommended on a sunny day. This concludes my recommended tour of Old Town, but there is way more to do...See "Old Town off the beaten Path"
